Just a Thought…

I saw this on Pinterest today and it made me smile. Straight and to the point. If you want something different in your life, take the initiative to make it happen.

Easier said than done. The first steps are the hardest.

Since I had surgery on my foot early March, I’ve had a hard time getting back into exercising on a regular basis. I eat pretty healthy, but I’ve let that slide too. Sometimes it’s so difficult to get motivated. It’s easy to fall into the trap of being lazy.

Last week I finally took control. I weighed myself one morning and promised myself to get back to a consistent healthy lifestyle. I’d like to lose a few pounds, but it really isn’t about that for me. I just want to feel healthier. Stronger, inside and out.

I don’t follow a strict plan, I basically go by this motto: Eat Less, Move More.

I’ve been exercising every day. Sometimes it’s just for fifteen minutes, sometimes over an hour. Every little bit makes a difference. I go for walks and hikes, ride my stationery bike at home, or go on the treadmill. The next step is to get to the gym.

When I exercise, I tend to eat healthier. I love summer fruits, so this time of year is great. My favorite breakfast is Greek yogurt and granola with a ton of strawberries, blueberries and peaches. I’m trying to eat less bread and sweets (I love carbs!) and more veggies. I don’t deprive myself (especially if I want dark chocolate), but I eat in moderation.

I didn’t like where I was, so I took the steps to change.

I’m not a tree.

  1. Sounds like you started your journey from a similar place that I started mine – I’m the only one who can! Im also reminded of a favorite Elizabeth Gilbert quote: “I’ve never seen any life transformation that didn’t begin with the person in question getting sick of their own bullsh*t” Good Luck!!! 😎https://twitter.com/GilbertLiz/status/463748219533406208

  2. I think I am going to have to post that on my fridge!! I decided this week I would also eat healthier….so far so good. I haven’t been baking at all this week so that helps. My husband, however, found a really old box of vanilla wafers and was walking around munching on them. When I told him how old they were, he laughed and said when you are deprived of sweets even old wafers taste great!

    • Haha, that’s funny about your husband, and isn’t that the truth? Sometimes stale cookies taste fine, lol. I like your idea of posting that on the fridge! It’s a good one to remember often, at least for me. Congrats on doing well eating healthier. I’m the same… if I don’t bake it’s easier. I can’t resist cookies and muffins!

  3. Sounds like a great plan Jenny! Your breakfast sounds so yummy!! I too go from working out hard for weeks and then stop and then start again; I have just accepted that is the way it is. I do notice when I start up again and eat less and better, I see a difference in just a week; my stomach doesn’t look like I’m 5 months pregnant! LOL

    • Hi Traci! Thank you, and yeah, I love that breakfast. You’re right, the starting and stopping is normal, and just the way it is. I’m learning to deal with that better, trying to keep it more consistent, but not worrying if one day (or more) I don’t do much or not at all. That’s great you see a difference in just a week… I guess I do too, I notice my legs are more toned and just feel better. 🙂 And lol, I laughed at your last comment!

  4. Inspiration is always appreciated. Thank you for a great quote. When I change my thinking to gratitude for being able to move my body instead of feeling like I HAVE TO move my body then exercise becomes much more joyous. I am cheering for you. Go Girl Go!

    • Thank you! I appreciate your support! And we think alike… when I start to complain to myself about exercise, I remind myself to be thankful that I’m healthy and can exercise! Gratitude changes everything💜

  5. Yes the formula is eat less and exercise more! That is what happened to me as a offshoot of moving to North Carolina and helping my parents. I went into forced retirement, and came to help my parents as my father was in his last months. So now I get a chance to swim Three days per week! Because of my multiple sclerosis I also have decreased dramatically sugar and white potatoes. I also eat dark chocolate, the 85% kind, so I don’t feel so guilty!

    • Sounds like a difficult situation, but you found positives in it. That’s great you get to swim often, and that you’re mindful of foods that are/aren’t healthy for you. And mmmm, I love dark chocolate! For me, 85% can be too bitter, but I really think it’s what you get used to. I used to only like milk chocolate, then heard dark is better for you, so I switched. It was hard at first, wasn’t creamy enough. But now I love it. I’m making myself want some now, lol!
